Also on the same day, President of the Hưng Nghiệp Formosa Hà Tĩnh Steel Company Chen Yuan- Cheng made a statement on behalf of 6,300 staff and employees concerning the mass fish deaths that affected four central provinces.
"Our company came to Vietnam with the desire to invest and develop sustainably, making a positive contribution in the long term to the economy of Hà Tĩnh Province and Vietnam in general. Nevertheless, test runs conducted by our company as well as test results from the research and analysis of the inter-disciplinary inspection team consisting ofVietnamese and international scientists under the direction the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment have all come to the conclusion that our factory caused the environmental incident that lead to to the recent mass deaths of fish off the coast of the provinces of Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị and Thừa Thiên Huế. The test run was conducted by subcontractors, whom our company hired. Our company accepts full responsibility for the incidents and would like to express our sincere apologies to the people of Vietnam, especially the people of the four provinces of Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị and Thừa Thiên Huế.
Our company would like to express our apologies to the Communist Party of Vietnam, state, National Assembly, government and the prime minister of Vietnam for having caused the recent environmental incidents, gravely affecting the lives of the local people as well as the environment.
We are committed to paying compensation for the damage caused to local people, offering support in occupational transfers and providing reparations to conduct pollution clean up and restore the environment in the four provinces.
We pledge to fully repair the existing limitations in our waste management system, improving the factory’s technology as requested".
