The summit to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the ASEAN and New Zealand. At the meeting, leaders agreed to upgrade relations between the ASEAN and New Zealand to a strategic partnership. Prime Minister Dũng and the ASEAN leaders welcomed New Zealand to increase investment in the region.
Speaking at the event, New Zealand’s PM John Key committed to investing over 130 million US dollars in Southeast Asia. In addition, state leaders announced that the ASEAN and New Zealand will further promote cooperation in different areas, like maintaining peace and stability in the region, economic integration, agro business, climate change, and disaster response. The event concluded with the signing of a joint statement between the ASEAN and New Zealand to celebrate their 40-year relationship.
