BÌNH THUẬN — Chemroad Journey, the vessel stranded some 73 nautical miles south of Phú Quý Island since June 10, has been towed to Bình Thuận Province.
The Bình Thuận Search and Rescue Committee said that the vessel, flying a Cayman Islands flag, had been stranded as it sailed from Singapore to China with 27 crew members on board.
The 33,500-tonne vessel was carrying about 30,000 tonnes of chemicals and about 700 tonnes of oil.
As soon as they received reports about the stranded vessel, the Transport Ministry and relevant agencies worked with the vessel’s owner, captain and insurer to carry out preventive measures, particularly fire prevention, in case of an oil spill.
Between June 21 and July 1, the oil and chemicals were pumped to other specialised vessels. It was then towed to the coast of the central province. — VNS
