HCM CITY – The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has warned that high tides in HCM City and the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta over the next few days could cause flooding in the area.

A low-pressure system in the Eastern Sea is growing stronger, causing bad weather in southern Việt Nam and the possibility of flooding due to rising tides and heavy rains.

The Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Center said the tides at Phú An Station on the Sài Gòn River were expected to continue to rise for the next few days and could reach a record height of 1.68 metres.

Around November 6 or 7, stations located downstream of the Mekong River could see tides above flood warning level 3.

The national forecasting center has warned that there is a high chance of flooding in lowland areas, riverside areas and areas outside dykes in the provinces of An Giang, Đồng Tháp and Long An as well as lowland areas in HCM City, Cần Thơ and Vĩnh Long Province. – VNS
