HCM CITY HCM City will pay compensation to households affected by District 9’s Hi-Tech Park Project so they can move before the Tết (Lunar New Year) holiday begins next year.

The city's People’s Committee ealier this week organised a meeting to discuss the compensation and resettlement activities related to the High-tech Park Project in District 9.

The committee said it had completed four of eight tasks, one of which involves local residents' rights and benefits.

The committee has reviewed compensation records, local residents’ conditions and circumstances, acknowledged 49 complaint cases, and proposed new compensation and resettlement policies for households and individuals.

For households on 41ha of project land, a private appraisal unit has set a standard compensation and resettlement unit price based on the market price as of April 2007.

The committee has approved the compensation and resettlement unit price.

The People’s Committee of District 9 has compiled a list of 620 affected households and individuals.

The city's People’s Committee will also review and adjust necessary compensation projects while District 9's People's Commitee will determine the compensation and resettlement amount offered to affected households. For cases receiving additional compensation, an interest rate based on that extra amount will be offered.

Speaking at the meeting, a representative of District 9's People’s Committee promised that affected households would receive their compensation prior to the Lunar New Year holiday.

As for the 49 complaint cases, the HCM City People’s Committee will use the compensation amount that was agreed to earlier.

Authorities have submitted a proposal to the HCM City People’s Committee, suggesting that these households can purchase resettlement land at a price arranged for resettlement households affected by the High-Tech Park Project.

They can choose to resettle in convenient areas on Lê Văn Kiệt Street, in the Khang Điền residential area or in the Long Bình–Long Thạnh Mỹ resettlement area.

The District 9's People’s Committee promised to hand over resettlement land to them by the end of the year.

For cases that have not agreed to the compensation policy, the People’s Committee will continue to seek feedback from local residents, conduct further research and then submit resolutions to authorities.

The Hi-Tech Park Project was established on October 24, 2002. It is one of three hi-tech park projects that aim to develop HCM City.

It covers over 913ha of land, 801ha of which need to be taken back from local households.

About 3,113 households have been affected by the project. As of today, 3,078 households have released their land, accounting for 99 per cent of the project area. VNS
