HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam Embassy in Russia is appealing for help for Vietnamese victims of the fire that occurred last Saturday at the Mir shopping centre on the Avenue of Victory, Orenburg City, Russia, also known as “the mall of Vietnamese”.

The fire destroyed the entire 4,300sq.m shopping centre. No casualties were reported, however, the fire resulted in huge loss property, estimated at dozens of millions of rubles (US$1 is nearly 60 rubles). Several Vietnamese were facing serious financial trouble following the fire.

Further, the fire occurred at the time when small traders use their capital to buy goods to serve an increase in demands for the new year, so the losses were higher.

To share the burden, Việt Nam Ambassador in Russia Nguyễn Thanh Sơn on Monday called for the Vietnamese community in Russia to help the small traders overcome this difficult situation.

The embassy also asked the consulate office to prepare for supporting the victims.

On Monday, the embassy collected 200,000 rubles ($3,400) from donors.

Orenburg City, some 1,500km southeast of Moscow, has some 300 Vietnamese doing business, mostly in “the mall of Vietnamese”, according to a Vietnamese national living in the city. — Đức
