Two tests taken at the National Institute Of Hygiene And Epidemiology and a laboratory in Japan confirmed the presence of Zika virus and Zika antibodies in serum samples. The child's mother had clinical signs of Zika virus at the third month of pregnancy, and no other causes of microcephaly, such as chemical infections or smoke addiction were detected. The Health Ministry concluded that this is the 1st case of microcephaly with a high possibility of connection to Zika in Vietnam.
