The foundation was formed against a background of the spread of the Zika virus globally and increased presence in the South East Asian region.
With initial funding of 12,000 USD, the foundation will mainly support the examination and testing for suspected Zika cases, promotion campaigns to kill mosquitoes, larvae and potential sources of transmission in Vietnam. According to reports from the Department of Preventive Medicine, as of September 16, 2,700 blood samples have been tested in 45 cities and provinces, with 3 of them testing positive to Zika infection. The patients live in Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen provinces.
