VTV.vn - Youtube has been illegally collecting data on children, according to a coalition of 23 U.S child privacy, consumer and advocacy groups.

The coalition filed a complaint with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) alleging that YouTube, a subsidiary of Google is violating child protection laws by harvesting the personal data of kids aged under 13-years-old and then using this information for targeted advertising purposes. The FTC has the authority to fine the company up to $40,000 per violation case.

In response, a YouTube spokesperson claimed that protecting kids and families was their top priority. They would read the complaint thoroughly and evaluate if there were things they could do to improve.
