According to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), more than 663 million people all over the world do not have access to clean water where they live. UNEP this year is urging people to enhance green infrastructure and to combine it with grey infrastructure wherever possible.
Planting new forests, reconnecting rivers to floodplains, and restoring wetlands will rebalance the water cycle and improve human health and livelihoods. These activities must coincide with the building of water pipelines and reservoirs.
