The project was first approved in September 2009, with the International Development Association (IDA) providing over 65 million and the Government of Vietnam nearly 14 million dollars. The project aims to increase the effectiveness of small-scale animal husbandry, reduce the adverse impacts of livestock on the environment, improve processing procedures, and boost food safety throughout the supply chain. The project has so far helped upgrade abattoirs and create markets for meat products that meet food hygiene and safety standards.
