VTV.vn - The European Plastic Joint Stock Company (Europlast) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 50MWp Europlast Long An solar power plant in Duc Hue district’s My Thanh Bac commune in the Mekong Delta province of Long An on September 21.

The project will be developed on an site covering nearly 60 hectares at a total cost of approximately VND1.157 trillion (US$49.75 million).

It is due to be completed and come into operation by June 2019, and will be connected directly with the national power system.

Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Duoc, emphasised the significance of the construction of Europlast Long An in providing an electricity supply for Long An in particular, and for the country as a whole, especially as the hydropower and thermal power sources are faced by multiple obstacles due to environmental issues.

He expressed his hopes that the Europlast Long An solar power plant will set a premise for the development of more solar power plants in the province, in line with the Government’s policy of prioritising the use of renewable and clean energy, minimising the level of environmental pollution from the exploitation of traditional power sources, and especially contributing to ensuring national energy security.

Earlier, construction began on two other solar power plants in Long An province, the BCG Bang Duong project in Thanh Hoa district and the TTC project in Duc Hue district.
