The project will cost a total of nearly 3,500 billion VND (152.8 million USD).
During the first stage, with an investment of 2,400 billion VND (104.8 million USD), 7.8 kilometres of road will be constructed from Tam Giang Bridge to connect with the 2.3-kilometre-long bridge across Thuan An Estuary.
The project has been undertaken by a consortium of three companies and is scheduled for completion within three years.
The coastal road and bridge project is expected to facilitate the development of coastal urban areas, promote local socio-economic development and tourism.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Thua Thien Hue Chairman Nguyen Van Phuong said that once completed, the project will shorten the distance between coastal provinces and cities in the central region.
It will open more investment opportunities while promoting the development of coastal economic zones, including Chan May-Lang Co, one of Vietnam’s six key economic zones, he added.
The official said the coastal road and bridge across Thuan An Estuary will help realise the development plan of Thua Thien Hue until 2030 with a vision towards 2045.
