In 1994, Vietnam joined the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, which has intensified international co-operation for wildlife protection and prevention of endangered animal trafficking. Vietnam is seen as an important link in the global wildlife trafficking chain. So promoting inter-governmental connections and international support in preventing wildlife trafficking is important in the campaign.
Vietnam has about 4550 km of land border with China, Laos and Cambodia as well as 42 international border gates and minor gates. This provides favourable conditions for wildlife trafficking. The upcoming Hanoi Conference on Illegal Wildlife Trade in November will further encourage nations to make more commitments to address this problem.
