The policy was recently announced by the Binh Dinh People's Committee as part of a pilot programme to organise tuna processing and distribution chains.
The provincial people's committee has also offered a grant of 1,300 USD per vessel for 25 vessel owners. This grant is intended to upgrade preservation equipment and on-board refrigeration. The assistance programme will last for two years until 2017. Three fishing vessels will pioneer catching tuna using Japanese equipment with help from Vietnamese and Japanese experts.
