VTV.vn - For the first time in Vietnam, viewers will see wild nature in real time, not just through pre-recorded footage.

The Vietnam Wild Live project, with  the message “Connecting with Nature, Spreading Awareness,” was launched on the morning of June 16 by Vietnam Television (VTV).

To help audiences in Vietnam and abroad better understand the country’s rich, beautiful, and diverse natural resources, VTV is carrying out  the project for the first time. It will be broadcast live from Con Dao National Park, scheduled daily from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM, from June 25 to June 30, 2026.

Speaking at the launch ceremony,   Nguyen Thu Ha, Head of the Department of Science and Education Programs at VTV, said the project is a small but meaningful step for television makers, especially those at VTV.

According to data from the forestry and forest protection authority, Vietnam currently has 172 special-use forests, including 36 national parks, 55 nature reserves, 18 species and habitat conservation areas, and 63 protected landscapes, cultural, and historical sites.

Con Dao National Park is part of Vietnam’s special-use forest system and is one of the country’s 36 national parks. Over the years, the park’s management board has worked to preserve its rich forest, marine, and wetland biodiversity. These efforts   have been  highly recognized by national and international organizations. Con Dao National Park was  designated a Ramsar site in 2013. In 2019, it became a member of the IOSEA Marine Turtle Site Networkk. In 2022, it was named an ASEAN Heritage Park. In 2025, it was recognized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) added it to its  Green List.

The Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment has also designated several trees in the park as Vietnam Heritage Trees. The Vietnam Records Center has recognized Con Dao National Park as the place that rescues, incubates, and releases the largest number of sea turtles in Vietnam. Hon Trung, located within the park,  has also been  named  the “seabird nesting ground with the highest breeding density in Vietnam”.

Speaking at the launch of Vietnam Wild Life,   Nguyen Khac Pho, Director of the Con Dao National Park Management Board, said Con Dao is not only a land of sacred historical value but also home to one of Vietnam’s most  precious biodiversity resources.

It took the production team many years to develop the idea for Vietnam Wild Life, , and they chose Con Dao National Park chosen as the first destination. The first phase of the project will include five days of continuous live broadcasting from specialized , monitoring , and camera  trap cameras placed on islands within  the park, such as Hon Bay Canh, Hon Trung, Hon Tre Lon, and Hon Tre Nho.

At the launch,  Nguyen Hoang Lam, Deputy Head of VTV's Department of Science and Education Programs, said the project offers Vietnamese audiences  an approach to nature. No matter where  they are, viewers can watch wildlife stories unfold live, as life continues in its most natural form. According to the director, Con Dao is a dream destination for anyone who wants to explore and witness some of nature’s most fascinating wonders.

Nguyen Hoang Lam, Deputy Head of VTV's Department of Science and Education Programs, says the project's idea had been developed over many years, with Con Dao National Park chosen as the first destination.

The  program's appeal lies in the fact that no one knows  what will happen in advance. A turtle nest may begin to hatch. A baby bird may hatch or stand on the edge of its nest for the first time. An eagle may appear in the sky. These are all  real moments  that viewers will watch unfold without any retelling or editing. They will be able to witness these moments  directly.

The program will feature experts, journalists, and photographers with  in-depth knowledge of Con Dao who will serve as live commentators and guests. Among them are journalist Do Doan Hoang, photographers Vo Rin and Thuy Linh, and experts Nguyen Khac Pho and Tran Dinh Hue. The program will also feature conversations with forest rangers about their daily lives and work.

In preparation for the program,  the production team spent more than a month  in 2025 making science films while also working with units of Vietnam Television and Con Dao National Park to survey and assess key locations. The team studied signal conditions, transmission solutions, and feasible sites for the project.

The broadcast period from June 25 to June 30, 2026, was carefully selected to coincide with the growth and life cycles of several key species, including sea turtles, birds.

For the first time in Vietnam, wild nature will be shown not only  through pre-recorded footage, but also  live. Through Vietnam Wildlife, Vietnam Television hopes to build a bridge between people and nature. Understanding  leads to   awareness of conservation, and   concern leads to  a shared responsibility to protect the precious biodiversity of Vietnam and the world.
