VTV.vn - Eleven localities in the central region and the Central Highlands will be provided a total of VND45 billion in the second relief package from the Central Relief Committee to assist them in post-disaster recovery.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee and the Central Relief Committee have issued a plan to allocate funding to support the provinces of Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Binh Dinh, Nghe An, Phu Yen, Kon Tum and Gia Lai in overcoming the damage caused by natural disasters.

According to the VFF, the support concentrates resources mobilised through the Central Relief Fund to assist families whose houses were damaged due to natural disasters in the two regions.

Beneficiaries of this support package include households whose houses have collapsed completely or have been severely damaged by natural disaster, in which priority is given to poor and near poor households, as well as households with members who have contributed to the nation’s revolution and policy households suffering unexpectedly difficult circumstances.

The specific level of support is VND40 million for a house that collapsed completely and VND10 million for a seriously damaged house.

The allocation and transfer of support funds to localities is to be conducted before November 22; and the supported localities should complete the disbursement in December.

Previously, on October 19, the VFF and the Central Relief Committee decided to allocate the first support package worth VND22 billion from the central relief source to support the affected families in five central provinces of Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Quang Nam and Ha Tinh.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in order to restore agricultural production after the natural disasters, the central localities are in need of 5,600 tonnes of rice seeds, 225 tonnes of corn seeds, and 44.2 tonnes of vegetable seeds. Along with that are 560,000 doses of vaccine and 140,000 litres and 105 tonnes of disinfectant chemicals.

So far, the ministry has supported people in the five central provinces that suffered the most damage in the recent flooding with VND150 billion, 1.2 million chickens, and 75 million shrimps, along with 85,000 litres of chemicals and 120 tonnes of disinfectant chemicals. The ministry also organised 23 training courses for local farmers to resume agricultural production.

On the morning of November 21, the National Assembly deputies’ delegation of Quang Ngai Province hosted a ceremony to receive support from donors to assist locals in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters.

In October and November, Quang Ngai has been continuously hit by storms and floods, with the total estimated damages climbing to over VND4.85 trillion.

At the event, donors donated VND39.1 billion to Quang Ngai people. In the short term, the National Assembly deputies’ delegation of Quang Ngai has allocated VND29.1 billion to support local people, while the remaining amount will be distributed after assessing the extent of the damage in each locality.

Also at the programme, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Nguyen Hoa Binh and representatives from businesses awarded VND5 million each to 20 affected families in Quang Ngai City and Tu Nghia District.
