This year, Vietnam joined other countries in the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence global campaign.
According to a survey of a thousand Vietnamese people conducted by ActionAid, 87% of women and children had suffered from sexual harassment. According to Ministry of Justice, of 120 sexual assaults cases, two thirds were children. Most of them were assaulted by people they already knew. Unicef also claims that nearly 4,300 children in Vietnam are prostitutes.
Given this situation, several agencies have suggested solutions to prevent and mitigate the tragic consequences of such cases.
Women and children need to understand their rights. If sexual harassment happens, they need to speak out to let people know so they can be helped.
The slogan of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women this year in Vietnam is Raise Your Voice F Your Daughter.
