In his speech at the event, Vinh Party Secretary Phan Duc Dong recalled the history of the city, which originated 235 years ago, as one of the capital cities of the Tay Son Dynasty.
Vinh was also known as the place where the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement reached its peak during the 1930-1931 period.
The city was formally established by the Vietnamese government in October 1963 as one of the largest industrial cities in northern Vietnam.
In 2022, the city’s economy grew by more than 9%, with its income per capita estimated at 120 million VND (4,900 USD), more than double the provincial average.
Speaking at the ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue recognised the comprehensive development of Vinh City over the past 60 years, especially the recent ten years of implementing the Politburo’s resolution on developing Nghe An Province until 2020.
He asked the city to make greater efforts to make Vinh truly a centre of Nghe An Province and the wider north-central region.
The top legislator noted that the city must take the lead in promoting digital transformation, the digital economy, the green economy and the circular economy with three pillars: high-tech manufacturing, seaports-logistics and tourism-commerce.
On the occasion, the National Assembly Chairman presented the Independence Order, first class, to the Party organisation, government and people of Vinh City.
