VTV.vn - The Ho Chí Minh City People's Court has opened the first hearing of Vietnam's top taxi firm Vinasun's 1.81 million US dollar claim in damages against Grab, the Vietnamese branch of the Malaysia-based ride-hailing firm.

According to the petition, Vinasun accused Grab of not complying with regulations. Grab and Uber were permitted to operate as ride-hailing service providers, however, Vinasun claim Grab is operating as a transport trading firm, similar to traditional taxi businesses. According to a report in 2015, 8000 Vinasun employees left the company, allegedly causing damage of more than 1.7 million US dollars.

Vinasun asked Grab to pay compensation of 1.8 million US dollars and confirmed to have violated the law and cause damages to Vinasun. Grab stated that Vinasun's accusations are unfounded and promised to co-operate with local authorities.
