Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha said that the awards ceremony was an important event in the context of the education sector having undergone a different kind of academic year with many difficulties due to the coronavirus pandemic but still having achieved many positive results.
Despite the pandemic, favourable conditions were created for Vietnamese students to attend regional and international Olympiads and the significant efforts paid off.
All 24 students from five national teams achieved proud results at Olympiads in 2020 including nine golds, eight silvers, five bronzes and two certificates of merit. All five teams also featured members who won gold medals.
Addressing the ceremony, PM Phuc acknowledged and highly valued the efforts and achievements of the education sector and students in particular in 2020 as well as in the 2016-2020 period.
“These excellent achievements were thanks to the efforts of the students themselves under the guidance of their teachers and with the attention of their parents throughout the learning process. This was also the result of the comprehensive renewal of the education sector,” he noted.
The PM also expressed his joy when he learned how several winners of the international Olympiads made huge efforts to overcome their disadvantaged circumstances to attain excellent results at competition level.
They truly deserve to be the most beautiful flowers in the school gardens, bringing great honor and pride to their families, schools and the country, he added.
He also expressed his hope that students will continue to pursue their dreams and strive to become great contributors to society.
