This year's meeting dealt with changes rice producing companies need to make in the near future to address climate change. The platform released a set of 46 requests and 8 rules, which highlight factors such as food safety, efficiency in usage of natural resources and welfare for rice farmers.
As part of this event, IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, has partnered with Vietnam's Loc Troi Group to help the groups roll out sustainable agricultural standards and practices throughout its rice-production value chain. This is the 6th year the Sustainable Rice Platform has convened for such a meeting. This year, the platform welcomed 14 new members, bringing the total number of members to 63.
