VTV.vn - Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre in collaboration with French Embassy's Defense Attaché held a workshop on Wednesday in Hanoi to exchange experience on engineering for UN peacekeeping missions.

At the event, French experts shared experience on organizing and training, as well as challenges and lessons learned in the field to Vietnam's sapper units. The sharing is invaluable for Vietnam as the country's sapper units prepare to join UN peacekeeping missions.

Speaking at the event, Hoang Kim Phung, Director of Vietnam Peacekeeping center said: “The processes when organizing forces and purchasing equipment shared by France all follow UN standards. French experts also helped our forces with learning French, to add to the number of languages apart from English our service personnel can speak.”

Participating in the UN peacekeeping activities is Vietnam’s  major foreign affairs policy of multilateralizing and diversifying relationships. Vietnam has so far sent 12 officers on UN missions in South Sudan and the Central African Republic.

This is the 2nd Franco-Vietnamese workshop on UN peacekeeping activities. Such events contribute to the comprehensive co-operation between the two countries under the  technical agreement on defense co-operation on the UN peacekeeping activities signed on November 10.
