This is a notable issue being tackled at the conference reviewing 2 years of implementing the program that encourages seafood firms to join the struggle against IUU fishing. The event was held by the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers in HCMC on Wednesday morning.
2 years after the EU imposed its yellow card warning, Vietnamese seafood exports to this market declined by 6.5%. At the event, enterprises pledged to encourage captains, vessel owners, fishermen, and traders to avoid exploiting and purchasing seafood from vessels that violate IUU regulations.
Currently, efforts to prevent IUU fishing are being made as the European Commission will carry out re-examination in November.
