This breakthrough was confirmed at a recently-held forum that recently concluded in Washington DC. The event was attended by US Senator Patrick Leahy, one of the leading politicians who has tirelessly fought for the Agent Orange victims in Vietnam.
Speaking at the event, Senator Patrick Leahy admitted that their mission in cleaning up Agent Orange contamination had faced obstacles and opposition from many people. However, the US should not turn its back on a problem in which they should bear the responsibility. Patrick Leahy joined many other US politicians in promoting co-operation programmes with Vietnam in this field.
Representatives of the US Senate's budget management agency said that they had gone through many debates and complicated procedures to come up with financial solutions for long-term dioxin eradication projects in Vietnam.
Figures at the event showed that in the past 7 years, the US Congress has approved US$105m for removing dioxin residues at Danang Airport and US$30 mil for supporting people with disabilities in Vietnam, including Agent Orange victims.
