VTV.vn - Later in the same day, President Bill Clinton spoke as guest of honor at a reception hosted by the U.S. Embassy to celebrate American Independence Day in Hanoi.

The event was also attended by Vietnamese Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh, American Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius and former Ambassadors of both nations. Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh praised the achievements made between Vietnam and the United States over the 20 years of normalised relations.

President Clinton’s presence at the event was of great significance according to the Deputy PM. Clinton lifted the trade embargo on Vietnam in 1994, and a year after, he announced the normalization of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US.

The two nations have experienced a significant breakthrough in recent times that led to the Comprehensive Partnership signed by President Obama and President Sang in 2013. Furthermore, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s forthcoming visit to the US will have great symbolic significance to this bilateral ties.

After 20 years of normalized relations, Vietnam and the US are working toward a shared vision that characterizes the multi-faceted bilateral relationships that guide the two countries into the future and deepen their cooperative relations in the coming time. Hoàng Hằng, Vietnam Television, Hanoi.
