VTV.vn- Vietnam’s U19 team under head coach Philippe Troussier set out for Thailand on October 8 to attend the GSB Bangkok Cup 2019 international football tournament, as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2020 AFC U19 Championship Qualifiers

The Thai tournament, taking place from October 10 and 12, features four strong U19 teams from hosts Thailand, Vietnam, the Republic of Korea and Uzbekistan.

The four-nation tournament is considered a very good opportunity for Vietnam U19s to accumulate experience in order to have the best preparation for the Asian Qualifiers.

Before the departure to Thailand, coach Philippe Troussier and his players have undergone three training periods at the Promotion Fund of Vietnamese Football Talent (PVF) academy based in Hung Yen province to review tactics and build up their squad and playstyle.

After nearly one month of training, Troussier has selected 24 players for the tour in Thailand, half of whom played in the 2019 ASEAN Football Federation U18 Youth Championship last August.

The French tactician expressed his hope that through the GSB Bangkok Cup 2019, he would have a more accurate assessment of the team's ability to make necessary adjustments for the next training period. The tournament will see Troussier’s first matches in charge of Vietnam U19s following his appointment to the position in early September.

According to the schedule, Vietnam will meet the hosts at Boonyachinda Stadium in Bangkok on October 10 and the Korean U19s will face Uzbekistan rivals earlier the same day. The two winning teams will progress to the championship title match on October 12, while the two losing sides will meet each other in the third-place play-off match earlier on the same day.

After the tournament, Troussier’s side will return to the PVF centre to continue training for the 2020 AFC U19 Championship Qualifiers in November. Vietnam host Group J featuring themselves, Japan, Mongolia and Guam with all the matches being played at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City from November 6-10.
