VTV.vn - Nearly 1.7 million doses of Astra Zeneca's covid-19 vaccine will arrive in Vietnam on May 16. Vaccine batches are being distributed through the Covax (Global Access to COVID-19 Vaccine) mechanism.

The Ministry of Health is also continuing to accelerate negotiations for other vaccine sources to ensure a sufficient supply of vaccines for the people. Previously, a batch of more than 940,000 doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine was distributed to 62 localities.

State of COVID-19 vaccine production in Vietnam

As of 4 pm yesterday, nearly 890 thousand people have been vaccinated against COVID-19, most of whom are frontline workers. The doses were purchased by Vietnam and funded through the UN's COVAX facility. In terms of domestic vaccine production, the doses are expected to be ready by the end of the year.

Phase 2 of clinical trials for the Nano Covax vaccine have been completed and preparations for phase 3 clinical trials are underway. The phase 2 trial provided 3 dose levels of 25mcg; 50mcg and 75mcg and 100% of vaccinated people have demonstrated different levels of immunity.

The Covivax vaccine has also completed its 1st phase of clinical trials, the results of which on 120 people have shown high safety, immunogenicity, and high efficiency. The second phase of clinical trials will begin this month.

Meanwhile, Vabiotech company has postponed clinical trials to July to re-perform animal tests as the tests done on monkeys did not achieve the desired effects.
