VTV.vn - Vietnam continues to tighten the management of border routes and entry to the country to not let COVID-19 spread in the community, despite the fact that the nation has entered its 78th consecutive day free of local coronavirus infections.

According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, no new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Friday morning (July 3), marking the 78th consecutive day without local community transmission of the coronavirus.

Among the 355 confirmed cases, 215 were imported and quarantined upon arrival to terminate the risk of infecting the community.

Up until now, 340, or 95.8% of all infections, have recovered, with the latest four patients having received the all-clear at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi on Thursday. There have been no related deaths.

Most of the 15 remaining patients are in stable condition, with three having tested negative for the coronavirus at least twice.

Regarding Patient 91 – a British pilot who is still in rehabilitation following his recovery from the coronavirus, the patient has regained full muscle strength in his hands and feet, with normal liver, kidney, cardiovascular and pancreatic function. He can breathe on his own and oxygen exchange in his lungs has improved.

Today, the Subcommittee of Treatment under the National Steering Committee will hold the 6th national consultation to assess the overall health of the British pilot to ensure that he is healthy enough to take a non-stop 12-hour flight back home on July 12.

According to the National Steering Committee, the COVID-19 epidemic situation continues to be complicated in many countries, so when Vietnam opens its doors to foreign experts, high-level workers, businesses and investors, as well as for repatriating its citizens, it is necessary to strengthen supervision over these groups upon entry to not allow the epidemic to spread to the community. All arrivals must be properly isolated and tested under regulations, experts stressed.

75 repatriated citizens released after isolation period

On July 2, the No. 1 isolation unit of the 126th Infantry Regiment (under the Military Command of Hung Yen Province) in collaboration with the Hung Yen Centre for Disease Control released 75 overseas Vietnamese citizens who have completed their 14-day isolation after their entry.

From June 19, the regiment coordinated with the local medical forces to receive 81 Vietnamese citizens returning from abroad. After the first examination, two cases showed positive for SARS-CoV-2. Shortly after, the regiment transferred the duo along with four close contacts in the same rooms to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi for monitoring and treatment.

After 14 days of follow-up, the remaining 75 citizens were sampled for a second test, all of which showed negative for the coronavirus. Currently, all are healthy and eligible for release. After returning to their hometowns, they will be put under health monitor and must practice self-isolation at their homes for another 14 days.
