VTV.vn - On Friday night (Hanoi time), the Asia-Pacific Group agreed to nominate Vietnam as its only candidate to be a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020 - 2021 term.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Nguyễn Phương Nga, Head of the Vietnamese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, thanked the Asia-Pacific nations and affirmed that Vietnam will do its best to fulfill its tasks.

The Asia-Pacific Group's decision to nominate Vietnam shows that the international community trusts and supports Vietnam. The election will be carried out by the UN General Assembly in June 2019. The Asia-Pacific Group, which has 54 member nations, is one of the five regional groups of the United Nations.
