VTV.vn - The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) held a conference on April 7 to review the task of providing emergency relief to provinces affected by typhoons and flooding in Vietnam in October last year.

In October 2022, Vietnam’s central provinces were continuously hit by three strong typhoons, including Noru, which produced intense winds and devastating flooding, causing serious human and property losses.

Statistics as of December 28 showed that natural disasters killed and injured 175 people and caused an economic loss of nearly 19.5 trillion VND (830 million USD).

In the aftermath of the disasters, the Vietnam Red Cross Society quickly carried out many emergency relief activities, providing aid worth 4.1 billion VND to more than 9,700 people in affected provinces and cities.

The VRCS mobilised nearly 22 billion VND from its partners and donors for its emergency relief and recovery support programmes, while its local chapters also raised and provided relief worth nearly 29 billion VND.

Four notable projects included a project sponsored by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, a project by the Coca-Cola Foundation, a project by the American Red Cross and a project by SunLife.

Such projects provided direct and indirect support for nearly 50,600 people, with house repairs, shopping vouchers, livelihood support, provisions of cash and communication on clean water and disease prevention.

At the conference, the local chapters of the VRCS shared and proposed methods to carry out emergency relief programmes effectively.
