VTV.vn - In the next couple of weeks, Vietnamese lychee will begin arriving in Australia and the United States, marking the export of the fruits to these markets. Lychee growers in Hai Duong are busy preparing the first batches.

Vietnamese agro-products have been exported to various markets around the global for many years. However, Vietnamese products have faced difficulties in accessing the EU, the US and Australia due to quality controls. This year will be different as Vietnam has received approval to export lychee to the US and Australia.

According to US and Australian requirements, lychees have to go through irradiation process. Lychee growers in Hai Duong have to select and categorize lychees before transporting them to Ho Chi Minh City for irradiation.

Lychees are largely cultivated in Hai Duong. But this season, lychee growers here have followed strict procedures, from planting, registration, to the usage of pesticides in order to produce fruit of sufficient quality for export.

The Plant Protection Department has collaborated with local authorities to meet the US and Australian requirements for the exported lychees. We’ve successfully set up the irradiation process that meets US and Australian requirements. If these new export markets prove a success it will hopefully lay the grounds for the further export of Vietnamese fruits to other countries.
