In Vietnam, it's estimated that 130,000 people contract tuberculosis every year and 16,000 die from it.
What's notable is that Vietnam is one of the leading countries in the fight against tuberculosis thanks to its new and flexible strategy. Around the world, 54% of cases of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis are cured but in Vietnam that figure is 70%. The success rate may go up to 85% if the 9-month treatment plan is applied.
