This information was announced this morning in a press conference organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
This agreement ensures the legality of all timber products exported from Vietnam and expanding the scale of the wood processing sector in Vietnam. This is seen as a step to further the cooperation between Vietnam and the EU. Vietnam commits to establish a legal mechanism for the wood sector to meet the demand of origin from the EU. Vietnam also commits to implement sustainable measures to develop forests and the wood processing sector.
The trade turnover of wood processing in Vietnam reached 7.1 billion USD in 2015. The EU is the fourth largest importer of wood products from Vietnam, after the US, Japan and China.
