Vietnam confirms 1,100th coronavirus case

VTV.vn - A Vietnamese citizens returning from Russia has been diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2, becoming the country’s 1,100th COVID-19 patient, the Ministry of Health said on October 8.

The 29-year-old man, a resident of Quang Ninh province, took QH9495 flight from Russia to Vietnam on September 26. He was quarantined in Bac Lieu province after the aircraft landed at Can Tho International Airport in the Mekong Delta.

He showed virus symptoms such as a fever, a sore throat, and a cough after having contact with four other passengers on the same flight who were later confirmed to carry the virus.

The man tested positive by the Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute on October 7, and was immediately transferred to the General Hospital of Bac Lieu province for medical surveillance and treatment.

As of 18.00hrs October 8, Vietnam has recorded a total of 1,100 COVID-19 patients, of whom 1,023 have fully recovered from the disease.

The country has gone through 36 consecutive days without new locally transmitted cases. The death toll caused by COVID-19 and related illnesses remains at 35.

Of the 42 cases under treatment, 18 cases have tested negative at least once.

The number of quarantined people who had contact with COVID-19 patients and returned from epidemic hit countries has fallen to more than 14,000.
