Vietnam commits to successfully implementing SDGs

VTV.vn - The United Nations General Assembly formally adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in New York on Friday (local time).

Leaders of 193 member countries and international organizations attended the summit. For his part, Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang also affirmed Vietnam’s strong commitment to successfully implementing these goals.

 In his statement, the Vietnamese State leader highlighted key challenges threatening peace, security, and sustainable development in the years to come. He stressed that the 2030 Agenda creates a framework for all nations to collectively respond to common challenges, adding that Vietnam commits to doing its best to ensure the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

"Maintaining peace and security on the basis of respect for international law is a precondition for the successful implementation of the SDGs. Vietnam believes successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda requires strong political will, and full, effective mobilisation of domestic resources. It is imperative to strengthen the global partnership for sustainable development", said President Truong Tan Sang at UN Summit.

The President discussed Vietnam’s efforts to realise the National Strategy on Sustainable Development for 2011-2020. "Vietnam has strived to realise the National Strategy on Sustainable Development for 2011-2020. We commit to focus on accelerating economic restructuring, guaranteeing social equality, preserving natural resources, protecting the environment, and responding to climate change", said President Truong Tan Sang.

he State President said Vietnam and other ASEAN member nations are working together to build an ASEAN Community by the year's end, adding that ASEAN and its partners are engaged in common efforts to maintain and consolidate peace and security in the region. He reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy to resolve disputes in the East Sea by peaceful measures on the basis of respect for international law.

In conclusion, he expressed his hope that the 2030 Agenda will be implemented for the interest of all peoples of the world, and affirmed Vietnam will make positive and responsible contributions to the process.
