The workshop was held by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the Foundation for East Sea Studies. Many delegates said that in order for Vietnam and China to cooperate effectively in the Gulf of Tonkin, there needs to be a political will to solve problems and mutual understanding of each other’s rights and benefits. They stressed that both countries need to obey international laws when resolving disputes.
Moreover, the experts suggested that both countries set up more communication channels and cooperative mechanisms to solve issues related to fishing activities, security and environmental protection in the Gulf of Tonkin.
