Following Dong Thap, An Giang has had their first batch of high-quality mangoes exported to the US. Currently, the province is building mango areas that meet the requirements of farming techniques and ensure standards for export to different markets.
These are encouraging signs for Vietnamese agriculture, affirming the values of clean agricultural products as well as demonstrating that Vietnamese goods are gradually meeting the full requirements of importers, particularly in food safety and hygiene quality.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam is boosting promotion activities in a bid to export avocados to the US. As required, the avocados imported into this difficult market must meet the standards of maturity, colour, weight, diameter and must be fully intact and not exposed to wet environments.
Vietnam has many varieties of avocados producing fruit all year round. However, their values remain low due to the lack of geographical indications and strong brands as well as limitations in production and preservation in line with VietGAP standards. Therefore, it is crucial to promptly form links in the production chains in accordance with good agricultural practices to help avocadoes enter international markets.
International markets are increasingly setting strict demands on the products’ quality. Notably, cleanness and safety are considered the most important "passport" in exports. Vietnamese enterprises should also pay strong attention to these standards, particularly in the context that many batches of agricultural, aquatic and vegetable products have been refused for import or subject to strict supervision due to residues of pesticides and antibiotics as well as excessive substances or banned substances.
Returned shipments have not only caused financial losses for enterprises but also affected the reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products. Regaining the prestige requires more time than the process of building brands. Therefore, Vietnamese producers and exporters should learn to comply with the demands of food hygiene and safety from import partners, while carefully reviewing production to consumption stages. In addition to the supervision of the authorities, enterprises must carry out processes voluntarily and responsibly in order to bring Vietnamese agricultural products to international markets.
