US President shows appreciation for Vietnam's COVID-19 response

VTV.vn - US President Donald Trump displayed his appreciation for Vietnam's COVID-19 response during phone talks with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on May 6th, which came following a request from the US side.

During the phone talks, President Donald Trump thanked Vietnam for its supply and transportation of medical equipment as well as donating face masks to his nation. PM Phuc expressed his sympathies over the losses and difficulties Americans are facing due to the epidemic.

He thanked the US President for his goodwill to present ventilators to Vietnam as well as to provide financial support for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including nearly US$10 million for Vietnam to improve its medical capacity and revitalize the economy.

Also on May 6th, at the request of the US side, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held phone talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, during which they agreed the Vietnam-US relations continue maintaining the positive development across a multitude of fields.

Pompeo agreed to step up coordination so as to promote the ties between ASEAN and the US during the time when Vietnam performs its role as the ASEAN 2020 Chair and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
