During his meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, the two sides agreed to increase mutual high-ranking visits, trade, investment, and cooperation in energy, defense-security, and post-war settlements. Both sides also affirmed that the two countries share common interests in maintaining peace, stability, cooperation, development, and respect for international law in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. On the same day, the Deputy Prime Minister also met with US Deputy National Security Advisor Mira Ricardel and Senator Mazie Hirono, Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower.
Upon meeting with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, he asked the US Department of the Treasury to set up a dialogue with the Ministry of Finance and the relevant ministries and sectors of Vietnam so that the department can have sufficient information when it assesses bilateral trade ties and Vietnam's exchange rate policy. The US department was urged to push for the finalisation of procedures for ratifying the bilateral agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of tax evasion with respect to taxes on income.
The Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister witnessed the signing ceremony for the purchase of twenty 787-9 Dreamliners from US aircraft manufacturer Boeing for 5.6 billion US dollars. Those airplanes will be be given to Bamboo Airways by April 2020
