The US ambassador made the remarks while talking with reporters on the sideline of a workshop on UN peacekeeping operations in Hanoi on July 27. He noted some peacekeeping-related activities where the US could assist Vietnam such as sharing experience, training personnel, teaching the English language to Vietnamese peacekeeping forces, building peacekeeping centres and coordinating within the UN framework.
Osius said he and Vietnamese Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh recently discussed bilateral collaboration, including dioxin detoxification at the Da Nang Airport, unexploded ordnance and landmine clearance and searching for the remains of those believed to be missing in action since the war.
The diplomat appreciated Vietnam’s collaboration and support to the US in searching for missing-in-action US soldiers in Vietnam, and said his country is pleased to share information about missing Vietnamese people from the war. He noted that the US is willing to share its professional knowledge in the field, such as DNA profiling and data exchanges.
