Typhoon Mangkhut weakens after reaching China

VTV.vn - Mangkhut, the strongest typhoon in 2018, weakened from a typhoon to a tropical storm as it moved deeper into southern China on Monday, leaving death and destruction from Hong Kong to the Philippines.

Typhoon Mangkhut moved into Guangxi from Yulin City on late Sunday, packing strong winds and bringing heavy rains. The typhoon cut off power supply in some neighborhoods in the city. The regional education department has ordered all schools in nine cities to close on Monday. Local railway has closed some routes.

The storm was said to hit the regions of Guizhou, Chongqing and Yunnan on Monday, with winds up to 70 kilometers per hour.  Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to continue through Tuesday. The typhoon yesterday slammed into densely populated Guangdong province, killing at least two people./.

Super typhoon Mangkhut continued to weaken entering Guangxi, China. At 7 am, the typhoon was about 220km north of the Northeastern border, with the intensity of level 8 to 9.

It is forecasted that during the next 12 hours the typhoon will go deeper into the mainland and weaken into a tropical depression. In the next 12 to 24 hours, it will continue to weaken into a low pressure area in Guangxi (China).

However, it will still cause rain during the day and tonight in northern Vietnam and Thanh Hoa province. Heavy rain of about 100-15-mm will occur in the mountains and midlands. These localities need to prepare for landslides and flash floods.
