Since the early morning, the storm brought heavy rains and strong winds to the central region, felling trees and damaging homes and other structures.
Rainfall levels recorded in the mountainous district of Nam Dong reached more than 200 millimetres.
According to the national disaster management agency, there was one death in Thua Thien Hue Province due to falling trees in Phong Dien District while another 23 were injured.
The storm also blew away the roofs of more than 1,600 houses and brought down numerous trees in the provincial capital city of Hue and other districts.
Electricity poles were damaged, plunging the entire city into a power outage ahead of the storm’s arrival.
Local armed forces have been deployed to conduct search and rescue operations and deal with the damage in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Noul.
Six people were injured in Quang Binh Province while reinforcing their houses as a tornado unroofed 75 houses and other properties in Ha Tinh Province, with losses estimated at VND700 million (US$30,000).
Due to the bad weather caused by Noul, national carrier Vietnam Airlines decided to delay 14 flights departing or arriving at Vinh Airport in Nghe An Province on September 18.
The carrier had earlier cancelled 30 flights on September 18 and arranged 22 flights for the following day to serve passengers affected by the rescheduled and cancelled flights.
Despite having weakened to a tropical depression, the remnants of Noul are still expected to bring heavy rain across the central region, as well as in the Red River Delta over the weekend.
