VTV.vn - Vietnam’s livestock industry will be significantly affected by the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and if the Trans-pacific partnership (TPP) agreement is signed according to economists and agricultural experts.

According to experts at a conference on Monday held in Hanoi, the TPP would have a clear impact on the livestock sector through welfare, imports and domestic production, while the impact of AEC is almost negligible. Notably, producers of poultry sub-sector are expected to suffer the most with the estimated profits reduction of 11.46 million USD and productivity decrease of 1.17%.

Meanwhile, milk exporters may have a small surplus due to increasing profits from exported milk due to tariffs removals under TPP. Experts suggested that Vietnamese farmers should work closer together and call for the participation of enterprises to strengthen the competitiveness of the livestock sector.
