Local rescue forces are working hard to search for the missing under the mass of soil and rock which fell as the consequences of continuous rains in recent days. Meanwhile, rainstorms wreaked havoc in Dien Bien and Ha Long Province.
Earlier on Sunday, the northern province of Dien Bien suffered heavy losses due to extensive floods. The floods damaged over 200 houses and 160 irrigational facilities, submerged 450 hectares of rice, killed more than 11,500 cattle and damaged several roads over the past days.
Meanwhile, the province of Quang Ninh which has remained submerged for a week now, continued to suffer from incessant rain. More than 500 households in Quang Ninh's Uong Bi City have remained inundated since yesterday morning. The city had decided to buy an additional two lifeboats to rescue people in the affected areas. More than 5,000 people have been mobilised in the city to join in the search and rescue operations. At the same time, there is a high risk of floods and landslides in the northern mountainous provinces of Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, and Hoa Binh to name a few.
