Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Vietnam Fatherland Front President Nguyen Thien Nhan also attended the dinner.
At the event, Party Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted the recent achievements of Vietnam and Laos, saying that Vietnam and Laos needed to further enhance the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive co-operation which were fostered by presidents Ho Chi Minh, Kaysone Phomvihane and Souphanouvong.
"In current world affairs, Vietnam and Laos need to enhance the friendship and partnership towards the development that the communist parties and the people of the two countries have faith in. We will continuously promote the bilateral relationship for the prosperity of both countries and regional as well as international peace and stability", said Party Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Lao People’s Revolutionary Party General Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Volachith said he believed that the Communist Party of Vietnam will lead the country to further successes and development. He said he had faith that the relationship between the two countries would continue to flourish.
"I highly value the results achieved after the conversation with General Secretary Trọng. This will be the basis to develop the special relationship between the two countries. We’ll try our best to maintain and consolidate the friendship with Vietnam", said Lao People’s Revolutionary Party General Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Volachith.
On Tuesday morning, President Volachith was welcomed by State President Tran Dai Quang. At the meeting, the two leaders discussed the sustainable use of Mekong River’s water. State President Tran Dai Quang expressed appreciation for Lao support for Vietnamese farmers who had suffered from drought and salinity.
During the same morning, President Volachith met a delegation from the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association. President Volachith laid wreaths at the Martyrs Monument and visited the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum to pay tribute.
