The 19th National Press Awards Ceremony: Honoring 128 Outstanding Journalistic Works

VTV.vn - The 19th National Press Awards Ceremony – 2024 honored 128 outstanding journalistic works, including 13 First Prizes (A), 27 Second Prizes (B), 49 Third Prizes (C), and 39 Consolation Prizes.

On the evening of June 21, 2025, exactly 100 years since the founding of Revolutionary Vietnamese Journalism (June 21, 1925 – June 21, 2025), the 19th National Press Awards Ceremony for the year 2024 took place at My Dinh Indoor Athletics Arena in Hanoi. With the theme “Steel in the Pen, Fire in the Heart”, the event was broadcast live on VTV1, Vietnam Television.

The awards ceremony honored revolutionary journalists whose exceptional work has significantly contributed  to the development of the national press.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and delivered a speech at the ceremony. Also in attendance were Politburo Member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Commission for Communication and Mass Mobilization Nguyen Trong Nghia; members and alternate members of the Party Central Committee; representatives from central and local Party committees, ministries, and agencies; veteran journalists; members of the Party delegation, Standing Committee, and Executive Committee of the Vietnam Journalists Association; leaders of central and local press agencies; and authors and groups of authors whose works participated in and won awards at the 19th National Press Awards.

In his speech at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that throughout the nation's journey of strong development and progress, the Revolutionary Press has played a vital roleIt has served as a source of motivation, inspiration, and awakening the aspiration for development, while creating new, noble, and greater values for the country.

Of the nearly 2,000 entries submitted for the   19th National Press Awards,  the judging council selected 183 works to pass the preliminary round. Ultimately, they chose 128 outstanding journalistic works to receive awards, including 13 A Prizes, 27 B Prizes, 49 C Prizes, and 39 Consolation Prizes.

Among them, the A Prizes were awarded to exceptional works such as: Breakthrough paving the way for a new era of national rise; Streamlining the apparatus; Destruction of the world by the “King of the Waters”; Flash flood in Nu Village: “Life arises from death… leaving no one behind”; Standing firm against natural disasters; “Throwing” billions onto the street; Investigating the route of unsafe food; Faith and aspiration; Vietnam 1954 – Glory and Tears; “Bleeding out” – the waste of mineral resources: The burden on society’s shoulders”; and Destruction of the colorful mountains in Suoi Giang (Yen Bai).

This 19th edition of the awards comes at a time when media organizations across the country are undergoing structural reforms to align with the Party and State’s policy of streamlining the administrative apparatus. Nevertheless,  the National Press Awards continue to grow in reputation and value, resonating,   resonating strongly among journalists and press organizations. This year saw the participation of 17 out of 21 affiliated journalist associations, 29 subordinate journalist branches, and 59 out of 63 provincial journalist associations. They submitted 1,970 entries , of which 1,913 met the eligibility criteria.

Approved by the government and organized annually by the Vietnam Journalists Association, the National Press Awards are the country’s most prestigious journalistic honor. It recognizes individuals and collectives who have made outstanding contributions to the field, encouraging journalists to strive for creativity and professionalism in building a modern, humane, and courageous Vietnamese press. In this centennial year of Revolutionary Vietnamese Journalism, the awards carry even greater significance in affirming the enduring role and remarkable contributions of generations of Vietnamese journalists to the nation-building and protection cause.
