The festival held by the People’s Committee of Tam Ky City will last until mid-April and is expected to attract around 8,000 visitors.
Sua, known by the scientific name Dalbergia tonkinensis, is in full bloom in April for about two weeks. The flowers bathe Huong Tra Village in yellow in addition to its gentle and seductive fragrance at this time.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee Tran Van Tan said that to restore tourism after the COVID-19 pandemic, the province will promote activities at the Tam Ky Festival, particularly the unique identities and characters of the city.
The week-long festival will feature various activities including ao dai performance, a photo contest on Tam Ky land and people, photo exhibitions, folk games, bai choi singing, boat racing, calligraphy performances, street music performances, and others.
Notably, during this year's sua flower festival, the People's Committee of Tam Ky City will pilot a tourism programme to experience the 35km river route from the ecological village of Huong Tra along the Tam Ky River to the Phu Ninh Lake tourist area.
A rural village space will also be recreated, displaying typical agricultural artifacts, traditional crafts and agricultural products.
