Supporting pupils and students in launching startups

VTV.vn - Entrepreneurship and innovation are important driving forces and resources in the development of each country.

Thanks to the festival, the start-up movement among students, pupils, and educational and training institutions has been further promoted.

Nurturing startup ideas

According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Ngo Thi Minh, to date, 45 training institutions have established startup support centres for students, 10 of which are incubating start-up businesses run by students.

She noted with pleasure that 75% of training institutions has organised short-term training activities for students, equipping them with entrepreneurial skills. 60% of training institutions have established startup clubs, and nearly 100 universities have included startup into their curricula. In addition, all training institutions have developed programmes to inspire entrepreneurship among students by organising startup forums and activities.

SV-Startup Festival has provided an opportunity for pupils and students present their initiatives and solutions, which not only reflects their creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and aspirations, but also contributes to addressing issues facing the community and society.

Student Vu Van Toan, a member of the Hanoi Open University team that won the second prize at SV-Festival 2023 for their project ‘Smart Wheel Chair’, said that students at the Hanoi Open University are always encouraged to launch startup projects.

Toan and his team members realised came up with the idea of starting research project on manufacturing an electric wheelchair that integrates many functions to support people with disabilities, especially those with difficulties in walking.

Sharing his thoughts about SV-Startup Festival, Toan hailed that the event was not only a venue for students to show off their startup and innovation ideas and projects, but it also provided an opportunity for them to exchange and gain experience from their peers.

Equipping entrepreneurial skills

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, in a bid to build a comprehensive national startup ecosystem, the education sector will work to equip students with knowledge, skills, and capacity for entrepreneurship.

The ministry has also eyed to create favourable conditions for students to study and equip themselves with knowledge and skills about entrepreneurship to maximise their talents and abilities so that they can create startup businesses that can benefit the community and the society.

The ministry has actively coordinated with relevant ministries and sectors to formulate practical mechanisms and policies to support students, lecturers, schools, and universities in organising startup activities.

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that the startup movement has become a big trend among students. The ministry has worked with businesses to search for assistance in capital, infrastructure, human resources for students to launch startups.
