VTV.vn - According to the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (or ATIGA), the quota and import tariff for sugar products from ASEAN countries will be removed beginning 2018.

This means more challenges will be encountered by the sector as sugar from regional countries will be able to more easily penetrate the Vietnamese market. Despite over 20 years of development, according to experts, the sugar sector does not seem to have the upper hand in the upcoming competition.

According to the sugarcane sector's development plan until 2030, it will expand its farming area to 500,000 hectares and strive to achieve a 4.6% growth in revenue,Integration will put domestic firms in a tough arena with sugarcane giants, but this will also motivate them to innovatein order for the sugarcane sector to stay competitive in the coming time.
